GENERAL TIPS
- The Lost Cases of Sherlock Holmes has 16 cases to solve with a good variety of mini games in between your search for hidden objects.
- You start every case with 5 hints. You can earn an extra hint by collecting smoking pipes that are hidden in each scene. There will be one pipe in every scene.
- Use your hints wisely since there are so few. Hints can also be used to help you solve the mini puzzles that are presented in the game.
- You have the ability to skip a mini game but you only get 5 skips for the whole game. Make sure that you absolutely cannot solve a mini game before you pass on it.
- It wasn't clear to me how skips are earned in the game. I know that I didn't skip any games and I earned 5 of them. Every time you skip a puzzle, you will lose 5 minutes off your clock.
- There's also one of Sherlock's Caps that is hidden in each case (that is one in each book). When you find all 16 of Sherlock's caps you will unlock Sherlock's bonus chemistry game.
- If you need to know how many caps you've found thus far, just look at the bottom left side of the main screen (with all the books). You will see a fairly large cap that says the amount of caps you've found thus far.
- If you finish the game and you did not locate all of Sherlock's caps, you don't have to start the game all over again in order to look for them.Once you're done with the game you can click on each book and look inside.
- On the first page of every book you can see if you've found the cap. If the cap icon is black, then you need to replay that chapter in order to find it. If the icon is filed with the picture of the cap, then that means that you already found it in that book. Close the book and continue opening books until you find the one you need to replay.
- If you lose a round and have to start over again, you will not have to look for Sherlock's cap again (provided you already found it).
- The game seems to be pretty liberal about random clicking. You really have to do it several times before the game penalizes you for it. However, if you do get penalized you will lose 8 minutes off your time. That's the heftiest time penalty I think I've seen in an hidden object game. Click randomly at your own risk.
- Each time you find an object that belongs to a suspect, a dialogue box will pop-up. If you don't want them to continuously pop-up just go to the options menu and select "At Summary Screen".Once that's been selected you will only have to look at the suspects bio at the end of each level.
- You have the ability to search for items with or without the magnifying glass. If you don't want to use the magnifying glass just click on the plus or minus sign that is on the tiny magnifying glass on the lower left side of the screen.
- Even though you may not like the magnifying glass there will be times when some objects are going to be hard to find without it. The magnifying glass also lightens up the screen within its viewing area.
- Some things are a little bit off the page and can be hard to see. Make sure that if you're using the magnifying glass in a scene that you pull it half way off the scene at times. You'd be amazed at what you can find.
- You will earn bonus points when you find items quickly within a scene. It's a good idea to wait until you find several items at a time and click on them consecutively in order to earn speed bonuses.
- Each mini game is discussed in the guide below under the appropriate chapter. If you're looking for a particular answer to a puzzle please look under the appropriate chapter.
- SPOILER ALERT!!!! The following section has a walkthrough for the puzzles in the game. We've also included screenshots that show you solutions to the puzzles as well. If you don't want to know the answers to the rest of the game, please stop reading now.
- Just a special note, in the puzzles that require you to swap suspects under a special heading, please keep in mind the following. The answers are always going to be the same by what I was able to see.The only thing that changed was that sometimes the headings would switch positions.
